Easter Pretzel Hugs | Swanky Recipes (1)

Homemade Easter candy is the best. While it’s incredibly simple to go to a store and buy all the candy needed to fill Easter baskets or to share at an Easter Day party, it’s so much more fun to make it at home. If you have kids, get them involved because this is as simple as it gets when it comes to Easter candy. Plus, you’ll pay a premium for some of that boring, tasteless, store-bought candy and most times it’s not even fresh.

EASTER TRADITIONS

Easter candy is commonly given to children during this Christian holiday. When I was young, our family would go to church first thing Easter morning. The church would host an Easter egg hunt for the kids on the lawn after service. We’d head home and mom had her Cheesy Egg Casserole ready for us to eat. Then, family would arrive and we’d enjoy an Easter dinner feast together.

Since our family always hosted big holiday parties at the house, mom always had Easter recipes for us to make. A lot of recipes I have made my own over time, like these Coconut Macaroon Cupcakes, Strawberry Cheesecake Truffles, Peanut Butter Truffles, Rocky Road Fudge, and Peanut Butter Easter Eggs.

Last year, I made my Christmas Pretzel Hugs and they were a huge hit for the Christmas holiday season. I ended up doubling down on the recipe and shared them with family and friends back home.

Easter is my favorite spring holiday. I really get into cooking and baking, especially after taking a hiatus after the Christmas season. I make my Easter menu at least a few weeks before the spring holiday. That way, I have everything planned and all it comes down to is finding the time to cook and bake.

HOW TO MAKE PRETZEL HUG EASTER CANDY

Easter Pretzel Hugs is an easy Easter chocolate to make at home. Just 3 ingredients to homemade spring candy! I use pretzel snaps that are square shaped but feel free to use regular pretzels if you have a bag in your pantry.

Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper. Line up the pretzels, leaving a little space in between. Next, unwrap the chocolate kisses or chocolate hugs and place them in a bowl. I like to do this so I can just grab one and place them onto the pretzel pretty quickly.

Bake the chocolate hug pretzels in the oven for 4-6 minutes. Basically, we’re just softening the chocolate hug candies, but they won’t appear melted in the oven. To test if the chocolate is soft, remove the sheet pan from the oven and stick and chocolate M&M candy in the center. The M&M should immediately flatten without pressure. If it doesn’t, pop it back into the oven for another 30 seconds.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces chocolate hugs milk chocolate hugged by white creme
  • 77 pieces pretzel snaps do not use butter flavored
  • 7 ounces M&M’s Easter chocolate candies

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.

Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.

Unwrap chocolate hugs or chocolate kiss varieties.

Line baking sheet with pretzel snaps in even rows.

Top pretzel snaps with a piece of chocolate candy in the center.

Bake in oven 5-6 minutes. Candy should still hold its shape. Take sheet pan out and test a kiss by placing an M&M in the center. If chocolate hug easily flattens, they are done. If the chocolate hug doesn’t flatten, bake at 30-second intervals but do not over bake.

Place a chocolate M&M in center of chocolate hugs.

Allow chocolate to set until firm by placing in refrigerator for 10 minutes then store in an airtight container.
