Started on this drug and had most all of the side effects the main one has been my eyesight cant see anything close up.

I have this problem as well. I am unable to read anything up close anymore. Have you found an answer yet?

I agree with our friend Rajive. Since you are diabetic it is very important to have your eyes checked once a year. If you are aound 40ish if could be you just need reading glasses for up close reading. Tha's about the age our eye muscles become weaker, & do not adjust fast enough to see things up close. Have you noticed your arms getting longer & longer lately? ha ha Best of luck to you...

In about 1-7% people who take Gabapentin do report double or blurred vision as its side effects.
Not being able to see close up could be due to weak eyesight, would recommend that you go to an doc and get your eyes checked/tested.

I am almost at the end of the tritation (4 capsules 3 times a day) and have found that my vision is blurry for farther away things. I can't see the tv guide on the tv anymore - easier to read with my glasses, but still blurry.
I am sorry to know your condition, deeply regret it, would recommend that you seek advice from the doc who prescribed the med, sooner the better, please.

I have been taking Gabapentin for over a year and within 2 weeks of starting it I noticed I was unable to see to read and since have to use reading glasses. It greatly increased the severity of decline of near sight once they added zoloft. I suffer from entire body neuropathy and fibromyalgia. My sight was fine till I started taking these medications. But, I'd much rather have blurred vision than feel that pain of my skin burning constantly. I'm interested in finding the reason for this disturbance in vision. What process is the drug disturbing?
I didn't have weak eyesight until taking this medication. Pay attention to your body before you start new medications and record the effects you encounter.

Gabapentin reaction noted in VA record 2007 - Visual Disturbance.
2013 - Gabapentin prescribed and reordered until March 2018 by Buffalo-VAMC. PCP was aware of negative reaction and refused to alter treatment, saying "I cannot and will not prescribe anything further".
Since stopping Gabapentin in April 2018, I am still experiencing visual disturbances.
5 years of exposure to a substance KNOWN to be harmful to my vision, my pupils will not dilate and I must blink to clear my vision.
The VA is refusing to acknowledge the issue, I am concerned that my vision will not recover. I have been referred to an Opthamologist by my outside PCP.

I have been off Gabapentin for a decade. I am still experiencing double vision/blurred vision after all this time. I suspect these effects are permanent. Had I known ahead of time I might have chosen not to take this drug as I used to be an avid book reader but can't do so anymore.
I will continue to warn people of this and other side effects that I experienced associated with the use of this drug which include:
Extreme sleepiness,
extreme dizziness,
brain fog,
balance issues,
vision problems that never go away even after stopping the drug,
lack of motivation,
other mental health issues.
Talk to your DR and make sure you have the ability to withstand these side effects.
When I was put on this drug I was living by myself, in the country and couldn't drive while on this medication due to the dizziness, sleepiness, and vision problem. I had to rely on family members to come and take me into town once a month for groceries and Dr appointments.
Not a good way to live.

I have been taking Gabapentin for over 3 years for neuropathic pain. I have gone from regular, plain bifocals, to trifocals with prism because my eyes no longer focus properly. Every 6 or so months now, I need new eye exam because my vision has become noticeably worse and my glasses are no longer sufficient. Every 6 months! Our glasses/contacts should be fine for one year, yet I need two a year! I have been concerned about losing my site altogether. This Gabapentin is a terrible drug. See gabapentin and dental problems as well.
