The Department of Computer Science & Engineering was established in the year 1986 with an intake of 60 students and increased to 120 students again increased to 180 students. Since then, the department has held a position of pride inSJCIT. The department is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi and approved by AICTE. The department is committed to continuously improve the quality of education by enhancing the knowledge of student and staff members.

It has consistently fulfilled its role of producing Computer Engineers ready to meet the demands of the IT world. The department has always attracted the best of engineering aspirants from all over the country. It has a well-qualified and experienced team of faculty.

The Department offers B.E., M.Tech., and Ph.D. courses in Computer Science and Engineering. The department has adequate facilities to support these teaching activities. Students of the department have access to sufficient high end computing facilities.

The department is having Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning and is also actively involved in various research activities. The facilities are adequate to cater to the needs of Research activities. The department has signed MoU with EMC2, Infosys, TCS, and others, for academic collaborative projects.

We educate tomorrow’s innovators, conduct cutting-edge research in most of the principle areas of the field, and lead a broad range of multi-disciplinary initiatives that demonstrate the transformative power of computer science and computer engineering

Program Outcomes

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

Dr. Manjunatha Kumar B H received his B.E., M.Tech. and Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. He is having more than 19 years of experience in teaching engineering students at the UG and PG levels. He is currently working as an Associate Professor and Head in the department of Computer Science and Engineering. His research area focuses on Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. More than 18 research articles have been published and presented at International Conferences. Academic experience includes as Head of the BGS Research Centre, Doctoral Committee member, BOE & BOS Member, NBA Co-ordinator.
